View Full Version : First rebuild -- About when? How will I know?

Hi All,

Just got a new shoebox and did my first fill of a tank from 3200 to 4500 psi and I'm very happy with the performance what I got minor issues sorted (small air leaks in my input lines, etc).

I understand I'll have to do a rebuild at some point -- replacing o-rings, cylinder rebuild, etc.

My question is, roughly when should I anticipate having to do the first rebuild?

And how when I know when it's appropriate?

After the first rebuild, how often should I anticipate doing rebuilds?

Can anyone offer any insights on when to expect first rebuild, what to watch for, etc?

Okay, I will take a stab at it if no one else will. I have rebuilt mine twice, the first time it was leaking around the shaft where it goes into the cylinders, it was still pumping but slower.

About 6 weeks later, and after what seemed to me to be much use, it would not pump up at all and I had a lot of air coming from the lower shaft. When I tore it down I had a split white Oring.

Use lube on the o rings but use it sparingly during the rebuild.

Yes it will stop pumping. Usually the bottom cylinder orings go out and it stops around 2k psi.
